During that same time his wife, parents and other family members were slain. Frankl developed logotherapy -- an existential psychology-- that demonstrates that we can acquire meaning and purpose from all of our experiences, even the traumatic experiences. Besides his famous Man's Search for Meaning, he wrote 30+ other books.
Resiliency is the ability to thrive in the face of adversity-- optimism is an essential aspect of this resilience, but other qualities include: high self worth, problem-solving abilities, social connection skills, sense of humour, and an amazing intuitive ability to erect firm boundaries so that destructive people can not penetrate, and permeable boundaries to sustain the supportive persons in one's life. Not everyone can 'naturally' acquire resilience, but it is possible for all of us to develop resiliency.
