Does Optimism set you up for Success?

In his book Emotional Intelligence, Daniel Goleman states that
"optimism
means having a strong expectation that, in general, things will turn
out all right in life, despite setbacks and frustrations... optimism
is an attitude that buffers people against falling into apathy, hopelessness,
or depression in the face of tough going."
This is the attitude that prepares one to succeed in life,
to have outstanding confidence, to overcome some real doozies
that get handed out, and to actually thrive. Optimistic
people can achieve their desired goals with great speed (as
in the following video) or they are okay with a lengthier
process that would drive some of us bonkers in frustration.
In either case, optimism is a preferred state of mind.
